Sew Your Own Shirt Masterclass With Lucy - August 30th & 31st (Full Weekend)

This 2 day workshop, hosted by Lucy of Sew Cumbria, is designed for those that are wanting to expand on their dressmaking skills and master all the skills involved for sewing your own shirt!

This workshop features the key elements of a shirt, so you will master lots of new skills including:

• Picking out your pattern size
• How to sew and insert a collar stand and collar
• How to create a button placket
• How to create a sleeve placket
• How to sew and insert sleeve cuffs
• How to create pleats
• How to sew a lined yoke
• How to sew buttonholes
• How to insert sleeves
• Plus lots of different sewing techniques! 

Size range for the shirt pattern is XS - 7X (Bust 32" - 60", Waist 24" - 53" and Hip 34" - 63"). If you would like a break down of the sizings before booking, please contact us.  

You do need to have some sewing machine experience for this course and have had some experience of sewing up some dressmaking garments, though not necessarily shirts!

Jenny Stitches, Unit 1, 78-80 Dalton Road, Barrow-in-Furness.

What's provided

• Tea, coffee and refreshments throughout the workshop.
• Paper pattern and instruction booklet.
  

What you will need to bring with you

• Up to 2.75m (115cm/45" wide fabric) or 2.50m (150cm/60") fabric for your shirt
• The exact quantities will be provided on booking, as it will depend on what size you will be sewing. 
• Suggested fabrics: light to medium weight woven including quilting cotton, cotton voile, cotton lawn, shirting, poplin, denim, chambray, linen, flannel, brushed cotton.
• If you want a softer drapier looking shirt, then opt for a rayon/viscose.
• 7 - 9 x 16mm buttons
• Matching Thread
• 90cm Lightweight Fusible Interfacing
• Sewing Machine and Sewing Kit (see below for in house machine use, please let us know in advance if you require a class machine).
  

The pattern used for this workshop is the fabulous Butano Button Up Shirt by Friday Pattern Company.

Class Sewing Machines and Tools

Here at Jenny Stitches we want sewing to be as accessible for as many people as possible! We have a number of in house Janome sewing machines available for use at no additional charge. We also provide basic tool kits. If however, you prefer to use your own machine and tools, please feel free to bring them along with you on the day.

(Please let us know in advance if you require use of an in house machine).

Passionate about sewing, Lucy of Sew Cumbria curates a wide range of sewing classes and sewcials to cater for all skill levels and sewing interests. Her mission is simply to spread the word of sewing and creativity through our workshops and ultimately the bringing together of and supporting (and growing!) this wonderful sewing community that is based here in Cumbria.
